  1. Day 1 Arrival to Comodoro Rivadavia - Bahia Bustamante Lodge

Welcome to Patagonia. Arrival at Comodoro Rivadavia Airport. Pick up your rental car and begin your adventure by RN 3 towards the Bahia Bustamante Lodge.

It was founded in the 1950s as a seaweed settlement, more than 400 seaweed workers and their families lived here, there was a church, a school, a police department and everything this small “town” and their inhabitants needed. Staying in Bahia Bustamante also means taking a journey to the past, to discover the amazing life of the pioneers of this truly remote place in Patagonia back then.

It is located 157 km away from Comodoro Rivadavia (around 3 hours).

Free afternoon to discover where you explore this private wildlife sanctuary, set in remote Patagonia by the sea.

  2. Day 2 Bahia Bustamante

Free morning and afternoon to carry out the optional activities offered by the lodge.

Casa de Estepa includes Free access to the Graviña peninsula, the beach, and the common areas of the Lodge.

Possible activities not included: Navigation to discover sea lion colonies and seabird colonies; discover Isla Pingüino, just 15 minutes from the lodge, colony of Magellanic penguins; Cabo Aristizabal, a rocky point with imposing landscapes, open sea views and hidden beaches.

  3. Day 3 Bahia Bustamante - Peninsula Graviña

On this day you will be able to discover the Graviña Peninsula in freedom and do another optional activity.

The Graviña peninsula, with its sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, and reddish rocks, is perfect for exploring freely on foot, not only to magnificent beaches but also to sites of great archaeological and geological importance. A number of natural pools are formed between the rocks and are great fun for swimming with an ocean view. The peninsula is a world of wonders to be enjoyed.

In the afternoon you can do another activity (not included).

Possible activities: Cañadón de Piedra, a huge canyon, following the path of a river (now dry) until it reaches the ocean; visit of the petrified forest, the landscape is impressive, a lunar desert full of fossil logs; the wood has turned into hard rock; Country day at the Estancia, where the sustainable wool production process will be known, the corrals and sheds will be visited

  4. Day 4 Departure towards the Andes Mountain Range

Departure by car early in the morning for a road trip of 600 km.

Arrival in the afternoon in Los Antiguos.

    Free afternoon

  5. Day 5 Marble Chapels

Early departure from Los Antiguos heading West. You will discover the dizzying path through the Andes, immense lakes, steppe, and Patagonian forests to the neighboring country, Chile.

You can observe Mount San Valentín, an imposing summit of 4,058 meters, as well as the main mountains of Campo de Hielo Norte.

On-site, you will navigate on General Carrera Lake (or Lake Buenos Aires in its Argentinian part), one of the largest lakes in South America (1850 km2). The geology of its coasts is very varied, and includes, among other things, a base dating from the Paleozoic. These rocks composed of Calcium Carbonate have been shaped by the erosion of the waters of the lake, and have dug superb caves where the light of Patagonia plays with water and rock to give an enchanting spectacle.

    Lunch included

Small-group excursion with English/Spanish speaking guide

  6. Day 6 Cueva de las Manos

Today you will discover freely the most captivating archaeological site of Patagonia, La Cueva de las Manos.

In the heart of the Rio Pinturas Canyon, these caves are a unique testimony to the presence of men in the region almost 10,000 years ago. But it is all the large amount of hands contours that impress most, and their almost perfect conservation until today.

You can follow the footsteps of the first inhabitants of Patagonia as you walk along the paths they used to travel through the canyon. The opportunity also to discover a part of the legendary route 40 less known to the general public, where you can observe the native fauna such as condors, guanacos or even pumas.

You can do beautiful hikes along the Canyon Caracoles, the Canyon Rio Pinturas, and through the astonishing “Tierra de Colores” (Land of Colors), an ideal site to contemplate the chromatic richness of the rock formations.

Entrance to the protected area not included.

  7. Day 7 Nature safari at Zeballos: on the highest path in Patagonia

You will leave from Los Antiguos to the East, crossing the highest and most spectacular route of Southern Patagonia.

The road to Zeballos is parallel to the famous road 40 and was created at the beginning of the last century as an old border road to communicate the region of Los Antiguos with the Estancias located to the south. Today it is a fascinating setting because of its geology (you will be perplexed in front of the arsenic cones or even in front of the huge petrified trunks!) and its changing landscapes. You will appreciate the diversity of its fauna like nowhere elsewhere in Patagonia. This place offers the possibility to observe flora and fauna of the region: condors, South Andean deers, and “choiques” (rheas), for example.

This picturesque route is known to be the highest road in Patagonia and crosses four distinct environments: steppe, Andean forest, high meadows and mountains. You will enjoy a view over the impressive Monte San Lorenzo (3706 m). Almost guaranteed observation of condors, trekking between dykes basalt sandstone formations and simple contemplation of the landscape which changes with the seasons.

It is a unique opportunity to discover authentic Patagonia with the five senses!

    Lunch included

Small-group excursion with English/Spanish speaking guide

  8. Day 8 End of the trip
