At Mater we know that accommodation is much more than a place to sleep. It is an opportunity to experience the local culture. Because of this, our itineraries are designed to stay in local hotels and, whenever possible, have an experience in a family home.
The published price is in standard hotels, but we have options in superior and luxury hotels. We work with charming bed and breakfast, luxurious estancias, and comfortable houses.
At Mater we always search for alternative activities to those usually chosen by large groups of tourists so that you can have more intimate and authentic experiences, without missing out on the most emblematic places in Argentina.
In this tour you’ll be able to get to know the local gastronomy and industries. Plus, local guides know a great deal about the culture and places we visit. You’ll be able to walk in the open air surrounded by mountain landscapes which are not only beautiful but also very calm. In our Lights in the Salar activity you’ll get to take the time to watch the sunset and all other changes produced by sunlight along the day, accompanied by a group of people from diverse places and cultures.
On top of our general sustainability policies (see here), there are some specific sustainable actions we take in this particular tour.
This trip is sustainable, on the one hand, because it stimulates the local market through the consumption of regional products such as the Colonia Caroya wine or the Qualitá salami.
Also, this tour is out of massive tourism’s circuit, favoring smaller communities and providing our travellers with the option of getting to know beautiful places that are less frequent in commercial tourism.
You’ll be constantly in touch with nature and, because there are group activities, with people from diverse countries and cultures.

We suggest that you take this tour between May and November (autumn, winter or spring) given that the weather is much more pleasant than in the summer, when temperatures are quite high (above 32 ºC – 89.6 ºF) with a humid weather, on top of being the rainy season. In July, the coldest month, average temperatures are between 18.6 ºC (65 ºF) and 5.5 ºC (41 ºF).
There are direct flights from Buenos Aires to Córdoba every day. Depending on the season and the date there might also be direct flights from Jujuy, Salta or Mendoza.
Yes, it is safe. However, mainly in the city of Córdoba, we suggest that you pay attention to your belongings, avoid dark and deserted streets (especially at night), and don’t wear jewelry that’s too flashy. Outside the city, although it never hurts to be careful, there is no reason to worry.
We mainly suggest that you try the local salami, great to take to the mountains for a picnic!
